Thunderball (1965) [James Bond Girls]

Thunderball (1965)

When two colleagues of James Bond are murdered, James follows the widow of a double agent who has been killed - and a confrontation ensues. The double agent is part of SPECTRE, and the organization's meeting in a secret lair in Paris regrets the agent's passing as it deals with new criminal business. Emilio Largo, a ruthless and flamboyant one-eyed enforcer, has hatched a scheme against the North Atlantic Treaty powers that begins at a rehabilitation clinic near an RAF airbase. Scheduled to pilot an RAF Vulcan strategic bomber on a normal "fail-safe" flight is Francois Derval, who is having a passionate affair with the magnificently endowed beauty Fiona Volpe - an affair that SPECTRE exploits. Soon, the Vulcan and its warload of two nuclear bombs has been hijacked, the bombs seized by Largo, for use in SPECTRE's most audacious extortion scheme yet. James Bond, however, finds a key clue in the sister of Francois Derval, Dominique "Domino" Derval, a beautiful young woman who is a passionate scuba-diver living in Nassau. When James investigates Domino, he comes into contact with a SPECTRE operation on the island, and he gets help from HMSS' man in Nassau, Pinder, and in old CIA chum Felix Leiter. But when James and Felix find out what SPECTRE is up to, it may be to late to save a major US coastal city from nuclear annihilation.

Claudine Auger

Former Miss France, dramatically trained at the Paris Drama Conservatory and best known to US / UK audiences as the stunning brunette "Domino" opposite Sean Connery in the James Bond thriller Thunderball (1965). Has kept fairly busy since her Bond days, acting in a mixture of Italian, French and Spanish film productions including The Bermuda Triangle (1978), _Credo (1983)_ and Bocca, La (1990).

Molly Peters

She is best remembered as Bond girl Patricia Fearing, the nurse Sean Connery makes love to in a steam room and is later massaged by Connery while she's wearing nothing but a towel in Thunderball (1965). She was 23 then.

Kim Basinger recreated her massage scene in the 1983 Thunderball (1965) remake, Never Say Never Again (1983).

Luciana Paluzzi

Shapely, reddish-haired Italian leading lady who followed a wave of 1950s Italian bombshells (Sophia Loren, Gina Lollobrigida) into films, providing sexy but routine diversion in spy intrigue.

She was originally considered for the lead Bond girl Domino Derval in Thunderball (1965), which was eventually played by former "Miss France" Claudine Auger. Instead, she played the evil secondary role of Fiona Volpe, the fetching, bouffant-haired nemesis who accidentally takes it in the back while dancing with 007, and is probably better remembered for it. Sean Connery's Bond has the memorable line directed to a couple sitting near the dance floor: "Do you mind if my friend sits this one out? She's just dead."

She's the daughter of an Italian army officer.

Martine Beswick

Martine Beswick
One of many incredibly gorgeous brunette sexpots running around in 1960s movies aiming for sex symbol status, Martine Beswick's film route went the predictable gore and whore route, with a few of her films now having earned minor camp status. Born to British parents in Port Antonio, Jamaica, she did some brief modeling and pageant entering before seeking a career in films. She allegedly once won a "Miss Autoville" contest and won a car only to sell it in order to move to and study acting in London. A minor break for her occurred in the 'James Bond' series. She danced in the psychedelic title screen credits in the very first 007 flick, Dr. No (1962) and then played a gypsy girl in the following film, From Russia with Love (1963). She later appeared again in Thunderball (1965). After playing in the well-tanned minority ranks for years, Martine finally got noticed after duking it out with Raquel Welch in One Million Years B.C. (1966). She become part of the Hammer Studio horror assembly line for a time, which unleashed the veteran turkeys Women of the Prehistoric Planet (1966), The Penthouse (1967) and _Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde (1971)_ , which usually had her in various stages of undress. In the 70s, she went to Hollywood and other than playing Xaviera Hollander in The Happy Hooker Goes Hollywood (1980) and a few episodic ("The Fall Guy" (1981), "Buffalo Bill" (1983)), this fetching, second-string goddess has managed to continue working in the outer fringes.
